It’s been 50 years

Half a century ago Tibetans rose up to protest China’s invasion of their homeland. It marks the beginning of the Tibetans’ plight. Since then more than 100.000 Tibetans have fled into exile. The absence of effective international support left the Tibetan government-in-exile (TGIE) high and dry. In 1988, nearly 30 years after China’s invasion, the Tibetans’ future looked gloomy more than ever – the doktrin of the ’Middle-Way Approach’ was set in motion by the Dalai Lama, effectively abandoning the demand for independence. Half-hearted „middle-management“ negotiations for genuine autonomy between the TGIE and China have failed. And the Tibetan leaders have yet to announce what their „Plan C“ is.
